In their mind and in their brain, they are just like humans. Because in a forgotten past, really it was a suppressed past, humans created Sideons on Earth as a resilient humanoid being with resistance to poisons, toxins, illnesses, all that. They were created so that the humans could transfer their consciousness into them and inhabit their bodies so that They can use them to explore potential new planets, so that they can withstand the harsh environments if there was some. Because Earth was dying. But no one on that planet remembers the truth of their old planet except for the ones who run the Minix Empire in the shadows. No one, not even a Sideon, is still alive from the original time when the humans and the Sideons settled onto that planet. Because Earth was already dead by the time they found the new planet. So they terraformed it and built a new life there, suppressed their true history. And now the Minix Empire runs the majority of the world and controls what history says about both the humans and the Sideons' origin. The new history that the Minix Empire made up and put out into the world was that the Sideons were like demigods. They were a species created and blessed by God and favored by God, and that's why they have their powers of healing and immortality, because they don't age after full maturity. But their history says that they betrayed God, so God cursed them to be slaves to humans by creating the soul contract, so that they can bind them, and use them as slaves with no will of their own. So the humans think it's their right given to them by God to bind a sideon in a soul contract. But really the soul contract is nothing but an incomplete consciousness transfer.
There's never been a time that they had their own society though. The sideons have always lived side by side with humans with no society of their own. And even though they have the strength and agility of the animals that they resemble they don't suffer from any compulsion from animal instinct.
Yes once they're so bound if one dies the other one dies because they're consciousness all the way down to the finest neuropath are linked somewhat telepathically. If one of those brains where to shut down and die the other one will fall dead too. And they can't exactly communicate words telepathically but whatever the human desires the Sideon will feel and be compelled to fulfill that desire.
The ability that is common to all of their species is there rapid healing. They were genetically engineered to have a hyperactive regenerative equality. Not even cancer could kill them. And they can metabolize and gain nutrients from anything their stomach acid can break down. Theoretically they could live off of bark and dead grass if needed to.
Once they become fully mature they stop aging because their body is in a constant state of healing. They're essentially immortal unless you cut off their head over remove a necessary organ. If their blood congratulates before they heal then they die. You could theoretically kill them by drowning them if you don't let him out the water before rigamortis sets in.
Because of the way their legs are shaped just like a animal with a double knee joint they are faster and more nimble than humans. And because of their healing ability they can do what a bodybuilder does or strength trainer does but in a shorter amount of time. We're a human would have to lift weights and strain his muscles to tear them so that they can heal back stronger over the span of a few weeks a sideon can do the same thing in just a few days because they're healing is practically complete from any wound in about 4 to 6 hours. So theoretically a Sideon can become freakishly strong with just a few days of training as long as they pushed themselves to tear down their muscle fibers so that when they heal they'll be stronger.
They have all the normal physical abilities of the animals that they resemble like the sense of smell hearing and night vision if that species were to be nocturnal or just in general have good night vision but they do not have the animal instinct or compulsion like the animals do because their brain was designed to be compatible with a human brain so that the consciousness transfer would work when the neuropaths copied over.
No all sideons generally have the same structural build but with their fur their head their tail and their lower legs being like the animal species that they were created from. The rest of the bone and Oregon structure resemble that of humans like the torso in the hip and the hands and arms.
As for the minix empire, they are the empire with the strongest force and the biggest country with the most power in the world with no other country or Kingdom having enough Force to overthrow them so the minix may not have control of the entire world but they have the power and authority to influence the rest of the world and their laws and culture. They are basically like the iron bank from game of thrones. They're just too fucking powerful. And their coin has the highest value of any currency in the world. No matter what country you're in or what type of currency they use no one will ever turn you down if you tried to pay with minix currency. In the minix royal family are human and are seen as the greatest power on the planet because of the sheer size of the military and range of influence but in truth there is a single sideon controlling them from the background in the shadows. That sideon is the only remaining living being from the team of explorers that came from Earth to find a new host planet. He is the one that decided to suppress the true history and slowly kill off everyone who remembers their true past so that he could shape the world in his image and suppress technological advancements so that society will never grow and develop large enough or advanced enough to destroy and pollute the planet like they did back on Earth. He's the only one still alive that remembers what Earth even was and guess what? At the end of the series when they finally come for him he actually has a relic from Earth. In the final stand when they corner him he starts dropping the good guys like flies with advanced automatic assault rifles. Until then no one has ever seen them or experienced an assault rifle or gunpowder for that matter so it creates Hysteria and confusion.
And no, no one in the book at this time as far as I know will ever come in contact with ancient technology until the end of the book when they chase the true leader of the minix down to the catacombs of the castle where the surviving pieces of the ship and the last remnants of ancient technology are being kept secret.
Their religion and God's are made up by the minutes empire so that he can use the inquisitors as enforcers and assassins to search down and slaughter heretics. In reality the inquisitors are being sent to find and destroy any technological advancements that society develops over time to keep the world in a constant medieval state. Not even the inquisitors know that their God is false and that they're serving the empire and their secret agenda. And the inquisitors are fanatics that are brainwashed and molded into ruthless killing machines believing that they are ordained by God and and tasked with carrying out his will to bring heretics to Justice by eradicating them. Most inquisitors just like iren have gone through the bone lengthening process to make yourself larger and more formidable so that they can overwhelm anyone that opposes them. Anyone but iren that is. In the book iren is the only one that can kill an Inquisitor by himself without issue. Iren is the ultimate killing machine big as of his extensive training from slate as a child combined with his mental state and his freakishly large size.
I haven't really developed the religious Lore yet, but sideons have the same belief as the humans as far as religion and souls go.
There is phrases that people use when they're playing a role playing game. The phrases are in game knowledge and out of game knowledge. When you're role playing you cannot use out of game knowledge to influence your decisions in game or it's considered cheating. I want the codex to be in game and out of game knowledge so that the reader can understand both the knowledge of the characters in the world and the reality of the situation and the truth behind everything. The two separate knowledges should be documented together as two sides of the same coin with comparisons. I want anyone that possesses the codex to be able to write their own story within the world and be able to follow the influential rules of that reality within the story.
As far as Damon goes addressing your last question or concern the minutes empire discovered that a coven of witches had performed a ritual to birth a child capable of reversing a soul binding contract and to obliterate the practice of binding sideon's. I haven't yet decided how they discovered it but I have a good idea. But regardless The witches did do the ritual and it was more scientific than it was spiritual but they don't really understand that. The witches just know that they used a piece of their leader to create a being without sex being necessary and their hopes is that the being will be born with the power or ability to undo a soul contract and destroy the practice all together so that no sideon will ever be at risk of being soul bound again. In reality Damon has no such power. Yes he is a homunculus, and yes his father was able to transfer his own consciousness into what looks like a stone in a bracelet, with the intentions of the coven transferring into the child once it comes of age so that their old leader can inhabit the body of the homunculus and use it to lead the world into a new age or a soul contract and binding doesn't work or exist. But despite their efforts Damon doesn't have that power but no one knows that. The Minix empire learns of the witches rituals to create the so-called savior, and a don't know for sure whether the child has the ability to do what they want but the empire refuses to take the risk and decides to hunt him down and kill him at all costs out of fear of what they don't understand and an imaginary threat. Because they are looking for him and because they're after him Damon is forced to flee the form and into the world for the first time and meet new people for the first time and eventually he is forced to join the rebels that seek to overthrow the empire because the empire is now they're common enemy only because they force Damon's hand by hunting him. In the in the empire falls only because they would not leave Damon alone and he was forced to push back. If they had never bothered him and left him alone on the farm then the empire would never fall. The empire's own paranoia over a power that doesn't even exist causes their downfall because of the survival instinct of one teenage Sideon who just wants them go back home to his father and live a peaceful life

PAGE I — THE SIDEONS
KNOWN RECORD
Sideons are a mysterious race of humanoid beings possessing the physical characteristics of animals and the intelligence of mankind.
According to accepted Imperial history, the Sideons were created by God and blessed with extraordinary abilities. Their bodies heal from wounds that would kill a human, and they cease to age once they reach full maturity.
The ancient Sideons eventually betrayed their creator.
As punishment, God stripped them of their freedom and gave mankind the power to bind their souls.
Thus was born the Soul Contract.
For generations, humans have regarded the binding of Sideons as a divine right.
TRUTH
There was no God.
There was no divine creation.
There was no curse.
Sideons were created by humans.
On a dying Earth, humanity engineered a resilient humanoid species capable of surviving environments that ordinary humans could not.
Their bodies were designed to resist:
- poisons
- toxins
- disease
- environmental hazards
- starvation
- physical trauma
Their minds were deliberately designed to remain compatible with human consciousness.
The original purpose of the Sideons was not slavery.
It was survival.
Humanity intended to transfer its consciousness into Sideon bodies and use them as vessels for exploration of other worlds.

No credible record exists of another world.
No credible record exists of humanity's first arrival.
There is therefore nothing to remember.
WHAT IS ACTUALLY TRUE
Humanity came from Earth.
Earth was already dying when humanity began searching for another home.
The original expedition eventually reached another planet.
By the time they arrived, Earth was no longer capable of supporting them.
The survivors terraformed their new world.
They rebuilt civilization.
Then they did something far more dangerous than abandoning their home.
They erased it.
History was rewritten.
Technology was suppressed.
Records disappeared.
The knowledge of Earth became myth.
Generations passed.
Eventually, nobody remained who remembered the truth.
Almost nobody.
PAGE III — THE SOUL CONTRACT
IMPERIAL TEACHING
A Sideon's soul belongs to God.
Because of their ancient betrayal, God granted mankind the authority to bind the Sideon soul.
Through sacred ritual, a human may form a permanent bond with a Sideon.
The Sideon becomes an extension of the master's will.
The bond cannot be broken.
Should either party die, the other follows.
The Inquisitors teach that this is justice.
THE TRUTH
The Soul Contract is not magic.
It is technology.
More specifically, it is an incomplete consciousness transfer.
The process links the neural pathways of two beings so deeply that their consciousness becomes partially interconnected.
The human does not simply command the Sideon.
The Sideon feels what the human wants.
Desire becomes compulsion.
Intent becomes instinct.
The Sideon can resist only within the limitations of the bond.
And because the two consciousnesses are physically interconnected...
when one brain dies, the other follows.
The humans believe they were given a divine power.
They were actually handed a broken piece of technology from a civilization they no longer remember.
PAGE IV — THE IMMORTAL BODY
WHAT PEOPLE BELIEVE
Sideons cannot die of old age.
Their bodies possess miraculous regenerative abilities granted by God.
WHAT IS TRUE
The Sideon body was engineered around one principle:
Repair everything.
Their regenerative system is so aggressive that their bodies continually repair cellular damage.
Their bodies can metabolize almost anything their digestive system can break down.
In extreme circumstances, a Sideon could theoretically survive on materials that would provide little or no nutritional value to a human.
Their regeneration is also responsible for their apparent immortality.
Once fully mature, a Sideon's body does not meaningfully deteriorate.
They don't become old.
They simply continue repairing themselves.
But immortality is not invulnerability.
A Sideon can still die if:
- the head is removed
- a vital organ is destroyed
- catastrophic blood loss occurs before regeneration can compensate
- the body remains deprived of oxygen long enough for irreversible damage to occur

They are very, very good biological machines.

WHAT THE WORLD KNOWS
The Minix Empire is the greatest power in the known world.

Its currency is trusted across borders.
Its influence extends beyond its own territory into kingdoms that have never formally submitted to Minix rule.
The Minix royal family is regarded as the most powerful political dynasty on the planet.
And the Inquisitors serve the will of God.
WHAT IS ACTUALLY TRUE
The Empire does not control the world because it possesses divine authority.
It controls the world because it possesses power.
Military power.
Economic power.
Political power.
And, most importantly...
information.
The Empire determines what history is remembered.
It determines which technologies are permitted.
It determines which discoveries disappear.
It determines what constitutes heresy.
And behind the human royal family sits something the world has never seen.
A Sideon.
The last surviving member of the original expedition from Earth.
The only living being who still remembers what Earth truly was.
He has spent centuries shaping civilization into the world he believes humanity deserves.
He does not want another Earth.
He will not allow one to be built.
PAGE VI — THE INQUISITORS
THEIR BELIEF
The Inquisitors are the holy hand of God.
They hunt heretics.
They destroy forbidden knowledge.
They execute those who challenge the divine order.
They believe themselves chosen.
They believe themselves righteous.
They believe they are protecting the world.
THE TRUTH
They are protecting the lie.
The Inquisitors are the Empire's most effective weapon against technological advancement.
They don't know it.
Most never will.
They believe the machines, discoveries, inventions, and forbidden knowledge they destroy are dangerous because God forbade them.
The truth is much simpler.
Their God never gave that command.
The Minix did.
And the Inquisitors have been trained from childhood to obey.
Many undergo brutal physical modification, including bone-lengthening procedures, transforming already powerful Sideons into enormous warriors.
They are terrifying.
They are disciplined.
They are fanatics.
And almost none of them are capable of understanding what they are actually protecting.
PAGE VII — THE MARKED
And then I'd make Damon's entry different from the others.
Not because he's more important to the characters yet.
Because the reader knows something is wrong with the official record.
IMPERIAL CLASSIFICATION

COMMON BELIEF
Albino Sideons born with blue eyes are believed to suffer from a congenital condition resulting in deafness and eventual blindness.

Damon was therefore purchased for almost nothing.
WHAT THE MINIX FEAR
Fifteen years ago, reports began circulating of a child created through an unnatural ritual.
A child who was supposedly capable of destroying the Soul Contract.
The Empire does not know whether the claim is true.
They don't care.
They cannot afford to find out.
The child must be found.
The child must be killed.
WHAT DAMON DOESN'T KNOW
He isn't the savior they think he is.
He cannot destroy the Soul Contract.
He cannot undo the bonds.
He doesn't possess the power the Empire fears.
But there is something else inside his story that nobody understands.
He is a homunculus.
His existence was deliberately engineered.
His mother's womb was used as the vessel for his creation.
And within the bracelet carried by his mother lies a consciousness that was intended to one day inhabit him.
Damon doesn't know any of this.
Harold doesn't know any of this.
The rebels don't know.
The Inquisitors don't know.
And even the Minix don't know the whole truth.
They only know enough to be afraid.
And that is where I think the codex becomes really cool.
Because the reader eventually reaches the end of the trilogy and realizes that the entire world has been built on layers of misinformation.
And then the final confrontation happens.
The heroes descend beneath the Minix castle.
They discover the ancient ruins.
They discover the remnants of the ship.
They discover technology nobody alive has ever seen.
And finally the immortal Sideon who has been manipulating civilization for centuries reaches into a hidden chamber and pulls out something that should not exist in their world.
A rifle.
Until that moment, swords, bows, crossbows, black powder, etc. define warfare.
Then—
BRRRRRRT.
And suddenly the characters aren't fighting a mysterious old Sideon anymore.
They're fighting the last survivor of Earth.
That's the kind of revelation a codex can foreshadow for hundreds of pages without spoiling it outright.
And I think we should eventually make the finished Codex look like an actual artifact from the world—aged pages, diagrams, censored sections, handwritten annotations, contradictory historical records, Imperial seals, redacted passages, and little “TRUTH” sections that the reader can use to distinguish character knowledge from reality.
It could genuinely become the rulebook for the Sideon universe.
I would say that is a pretty good first draft, though I would want to expand it a pretty good bit as we develop the story.
Absolutely. I think “first draft” is exactly the right way to treat it. We shouldn't try to lock the entire mythology down right now.
In fact, I think the Codex should grow alongside the books.
As you write, whenever you establish something important—whether it's a Sideon ability, a Minix law, an old legend, a piece of technology, a place, a character's history, a religious belief, or a rule about soul contracts—we add it to the appropriate Codex entry.
And there's another advantage to doing it this way: we can deliberately let the Codex contain contradictions.
For example:
IMPERIAL RECORD: Sideons were created by God.
versus
SUPPRESSED RECORD: Sideons were created by mankind.
versus eventually:
RECOVERED ARCHIVE: Sideons were engineered on Earth as biological vessels for consciousness transfer.
That progression would actually mirror the story's central theme: history is whatever the people with enough power manage to preserve.
I'd eventually organize the Codex into something like:

And when you tell me something like, “Actually, I just thought of something—the Sideons can do X because of Y,” we can say, “Okay, that's canon,” and incorporate it into the appropriate Codex entry.
So for now, I'd consider what we created Codex Draft 0.1—the foundation, not the finished encyclopedia.
And honestly, I think that's a damn good foundation.
